About KUTING:

KUTING Vision

Kuwentista ng mga Tsikiting (KUTING) aims to be the Philippines’ foremost writers’ organization that sets and upholds the standards of excellence in the development of literature for children.

KUTING Mission

  • To produce quality literary works for children
  • To develop our craft through workshops, lectures and discussions
  • To become a venue for exchanging information on publishing and other professional opportunities
  • To promote an awareness and appreciation of Philippine children’s literature
  • To uphold the rights of writers for children

Beginings

KUTING was born out of a 1995 UP Writers’ Workshop that focused on writing literature for children.  After the workshop, Perpi Alipon, Robert Magnuson, Carla Pacis, Augie Rivera, Lara Saguisag and May Tobias decided to form the group to sustain the writing momentum that they gained during the workshop.  They believed that sharing and discussing one’s work with fellow writers or budding writers of literature for children can help hone one’s craft and improve the quality of literary texts produced.  They also believed that meeting regularly with people who share the same passion for writing literature for children can serve as a good motivation and inspiration for creating more literary texts for children to enjoy.

(Note: Perpi Alipon is now Perpi Alipon Tiongson.  May Tobias is now May Tobias Papa)
